Bailing My Sister Out
Posted by Fun on 09/23/08 in Careers, Society
My sister made a really bad decision a few weeks ago, and it turned out to be a real lesson in how our legal system works. I had never dealt with anything like this before, so I didn’t really know what to do when she contacted me to help her get out of jail.
Shortly after being arrested they held what is called an arraignment. I was there and the whole process really only took a few minutes. More time was spent shuffling paperwork around then anything else. It was at the end of this arraignment that the judge told her how much her bail would be. Well needless to say, I do not have $25,000.00 sitting around! And obviously my sister was very upset that I was unable to bail her out at that time.
I went home and got on the computer and it didn’t take long for me to find information on Sacramento bail bonds. In California bail bonds are set at ten percent of what the judge sets bail at. $2,500.00 was a number I could afford, whereas the actual bail amount was way out of my reach. So I contacted a bail bond agent, and was able to bail her out of jail.
