The History of Dahn Yoga

With roots dating back 5,000 years into Korean history, Dahn yoga offers a simple yet strong way to merge your body, mind and spirit through nurturing your life force energy, otherwise known as "Ki.” Although a helpful method, the ancient Korean people failed to keep the tradition of Dahn yoga alive.

In 1980, a Korean educator, Ilichi Lee, began teaching this forgotten art form. People were intrigued by this peaceful, yet powerful form of yoga and joined his class. In 1985, the first Dahn Yoga Center opened in downtown Seoul. Then, in 1991, a Korean-American opened the first United States Dahn Yoga Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1996, Japan followed with its first Dahn Yoga Center in Tsuruhashi, Osal.

Another crowning achievement for Dahn yoga was in 1997 when the Sedona Ilchi Meditation Center was established. This center hosts programs specifically catered to Dahn yoga members. Over the next 10 years, Dahn yoga has seen an influx of popularity and growth. Today, there are hundreds of Dahn yoga studios worldwide. So, if you are looking for Chicago Dahn yoga or CA Dahn yoga, for examples, all you have to do is conduct a search on the Internet for your local studios.

Dahn yoga has come a long way. Become one of the thousands who will benefit along its path.
